Job Description

Caregiver - Full-time

The Michigan Nanny Authority: Grand Rapids is now interviewing for the following position:

A loving family in Northeast Grand Rapids is seeking a Full-Time Nanny for 30 hours per week!

Parents are looking to hire an experienced, career-minded, and self-motivated Professional Nanny to join their parenting team and help them care for their three children.  The family has three boys who are 5-years-old, almost 4-years-old, and almost 2-years-old.

Flexibility is key for this position, as the weekly schedule will vary depending on the parents’ work schedules.  Nanny will be asked to work 4-5 days a week, and most of Nanny’s working hours will fall between 7:30am and 5:30pm Monday-Friday, with the occasional later evening.   Nanny will always know their schedule for the following month(s) at least one month in advance.  While the average weekly hours will range between 30-40 hours total, Nanny will be paid a guaranteed 30 hours per week, even if they work fewer or when the family travels, and will be paid for every hour they work above 30 hours in a week.  Overtime will be paid for every hour worked over 40 in a week, which will be a rare occurrence.   Nanny will be able to start ASAP, or at least by end of May/early June!

The Nanny’s primary responsibility is to provide maternal, loving care and oversee the varying schedules of the family’s 3 children.  The oldest attends Young 5’s 4 days per week, and in the fall, he will be in Kindergarten.  The middle boy will be in preschool 3 mornings each week starting in the fall.  They are also enrolled in camps this summer, and all the boys will take swim lessons.  Nanny will provide transportation to and from school and other extracurricular activities and classes, which Nanny will be encouraged to seek out and schedule for the boys’ according to their interests, especially in the summer months.  Nanny will also be encouraged to plan crafts, games, and activities for the boys, prioritize and oversee daily outside play and exploration time, and work on learning and development as much as possible while managing the daily fun and chaos of 3 children of differing ages.  The Nanny will drive the family’s provided minivan for all transportation and errands while on duty. The children eat a primarily plant-based diet, so Nanny will plan and prepare healthy meals and snacks, and the parents would love to have them introduce their family to new recipes and ideas!

The Nanny will also be responsible for light child-related housekeeping, including: helping with the children’s laundry, running the dishwasher, tidying and maintaining organization in the children’s rooms and play areas, and tidying up after themselves and the children in the common areas (living room, kitchen, etc.), while encouraging the boys’ active participation in chores as much as possible.  The family will also appreciate a Nanny who can keep on top of the boys’ closets (cycling out clothes by size and season and purchasing new clothes as needed), help maintain organization in the pantry and fridge, keep grocery and other shopping lists updated for anything related to the home and family, and overall help the parents anticipate the needs of the boys’.  The family would love to have the Nanny help with other Household Management tasks as well, and would offer more pay for an experienced candidate who would thrive in their home as a Nanny/Household Manager.

The ideal Nanny will have at least 2 years of professional childcare experience.  They will be self-motivated and will function like an extension of the mother and naturally step into the role, taking over the daily and weekly routines for the children and keeping their schedules straight, helping keep order and organization in the home, and accomplishing what needs to be done for the children without waiting for instructions.  They should have impeccable work ethic and be reliable, flexible, responsible, and trustworthy.  The ideal Nanny will also be active and engaging, being a fun and friendly playmate for the boys.   They will have a confident and outgoing personality, but will equally have lots of patience, strong empathy skills, and a deep maternal instinct and passion for working with children.  The family prioritizes honest, open communication, and are looking forward to welcoming their Nanny as a valued member of their family and extension of their parenting team!  Preference will be given to a Nanny with a degree or coursework in education or child and family development, and this position could be perfect for a caregiver who has worked as a Lead Teacher or Preschool teacher in a center and would like to transition to a Nanny career.

This position requires a long-term commitment to the family, and preference will be given to the candidate who is willing to stay for more than three years.  A minimum of 1 year commitment is required.  Pay will start at $20-25 per hour depending on Nanny’s education and experience and position includes standard industry benefits such as guaranteed pay, paid time off, and paid holidays.

The right candidate:

  • Will have AT LEAST two years of part- or full-time nanny experience, or at least two years in a daycare or classroom setting.
  • Will have their own reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and a clean driving record.
  • Must be21 years of age and be legal to work in the USA
  • Must pass a thorough background check and drug test before starting the position.
  • Must have current CPR/First aid certification or agree to complete a class within 90 days of start-date.
  • Must have COVID vaccination (proof of vaccination or proof of COVID infection will be requested by family) and flu shot, or be willing to get both before their start date, and must be willing to get a flu shot annually (parents will pay for any immunizations.)
