Sermon Series: Learning to Trust: The Story of Abraham
Guest Speaker John Dickson tackles a tough passage from the Bible-Abraham’s test with Isaac. Through this story, we see that God is the one who provides. He provides a sacrifice for Abraham and Isaac on the mountain and he provides himself as a sacrifice for us in Jesus.

His obedience ripples out through the pages of our Bible. We see that God asks us to move in unique ways in our life. Through this story, we see that our relationship with God is not dependent upon earning or deserving his favor, but upon the work of Jesus on the cross. God’s covenant with Abram foreshadows the work of Jesus on the cross. Genesis 15.
Teaching Pastor Aaron Buer discusses the shortcut Sarai and Abram take by seeking God’s promise through Hagar. Through this story, we see that shortcuts to God’s plan, even culturally acceptable ones, typically lead to significant problems. In the midst of the consequences, God sees and is concerned with those who our culture may deem unimportant. Genesis 16
