THREE THINGS TO KNOW

DON’T MISS THIS

SERVING. You hear us talk about serving a lot at Ada Bible. Serving helps us grow in our faith and is how we as a church bless others. Summer is a great time to step into serving, whether helping in children’s ministry once a month or serving in the community as a small group. Find current serving opportunities at adabible.org/info/serving-needs/

GROUP VALUES

This May, we focus on BIBLICAL TRUTH. Conversations around the Bible are at the core of small groups. The mission of small groups at Ada Bible is to make disciples in relational environments. Reflect on the role of God’s Word in your group and whether there are any changes you need to make to how your group functions.

DISCUSSION GUIDE

Welcome to the seventh and final week of our sermon series, REKINDLE. This week, we look at Paul’s conclusion to this letter and the various people Paul mentions and their impact on his life and ministry.

ICEBREAKER

What are you most looking forward to for Memorial Day Weekend?

THIS WEEK’S TEXT

Have someone read 2 Timothy 4:9-22 aloud.

Based on the examples of Demas and others mentioned, what contrasting responses to Paul’s circumstances are described?

Despite being deserted by others, what confidence does Paul express and what does this reveal about his faith?

This passage ends with Paul sending greetings to various individuals. What insight might this give into the community of believers surrounding Paul and Timothy?

THIS WEEK’S SERMON

Pastor Jeff Manion continued our Rekindle sermon series by discussing Paul’s final words to Timothy, including examples of faithfulness to the gospel and some of abandonment. As a group, recall some of the sermon’s big ideas and main points.

Where do you see examples in our culture of people abandoning commitments or deserting relationships when faced with difficulty or a more enticing path?

What are some ways we may be tempted to “desert” our faith or calling when the path becomes challenging?

Have you experienced the pain of someone close to you “deserting” or walking away from an important relationship or commitment? How did you process that?

Demas deserted Paul, drawn away by the allure of the world. When are you most susceptible to the “pull of the world” over your devotion to Christ?

On the other hand, we see Mark welcomed back after previously abandoning Paul. When have you witnessed someone returning with renewed commitment after a failure or season of immaturity?

Is there someone in your life who you need to extend grace and a fresh opportunity to, despite previous hurts or disappointments? What could taking a step toward that person look like?

What could it look like to love someone from afar and leave room for “God to repay” them for the harm they have caused and not taking it into your own hands (2 Timothy 4:14).

Despite all the difficulties Paul faced, he could say “the Lord stood with me.” When has the Lord’s presence and strength been evident to you during a challenging season?

Which part of the sermon encouraged or challenged you the most, and why?

WRAP UP

As the sermon series concludes, what is one way you want to “rekindle” your passion for the gospel and faithfulness to your calling in Christ?
