THREE THINGS TO KNOW

DON’T MISS THIS

Help support our local ministry projects by purchasing needed items. Purchase something from the list (adabible.org/givingtables) and then drop it back off at the assigned campus Tuesday, June 16 from 5-7 pm or Thursday, June 18 from 9-11 am. This one act blesses so many in our community.

GROUP VALUES

As schedules change for the summer, consider how your group can serve together. Maybe there is someone you know who could use help with something or an organization that you are passionate about. Discuss ways to serve together this summer.

GROW AS A LEADER

Last week we posted five tips to help you navigate conversations surrounding racial injustice. Find them online at adabible.org/resources/june-6-7-a-conversation-about-our-city/.

DISCUSSION GUIDE

Welcome to week eight of our series, The Way of the Wise. This week we’re reminded to make wise and careful choices each day as we gain wise advice, guard our hearts and submit our ways to God, so we don’t look back and wonder, “How did I get here?”

How is your life changing as the COVID-19 restrictions are being lifted?

THE WISDOM CHALLENGE

How has reading a proverb every day helped shape your Chair Time?

Take a moment to read together Proverbs 7:6-10; 21-27.  Summarize the “word picture” the father uses to talk to his son about wisdom.

WE WANDER

Sometimes we wander into danger because we are merely inexperienced, whether in friendship, marriage, spiritual life, parenting, finances, homeownership or something else. How has this happened to you?

Proverbs 21:11 says, “When a mocker is punished, the simple gain wisdom; by paying attention to the wise they get knowledge.” What are some ways we can pay attention to the wise in our friendships, marriage, spiritual life, parenting, finances, homeownership, work or other areas of our lives?

WE IGNORE THE DANGER

The man in the story ignores the danger signs. He walks right toward it. When we walk right into danger, we get to choose our actions but not our consequences. How have you seen this play out in your life or the lives of others around you?

We may be ignoring danger signs in our own life. The very first words Jesus speaks in the book of Matthew are to repent. Repent means to change your mind and change your direction. What’s one area of your life where you feel like you are ignoring the danger signs or flirting too much with danger?

WE FOLLOW OUR HEARTS

Proverbs 4:23 says, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” Pastor Aaron Buer told us, “Your feet will eventually follow your heart.” What do you think this means?

Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Why do you think it can be so hard to trust God when our heart is pulling us in a different direction?

WRAP UP

How can you trust God with and submit to him with an area where you find yourself ignoring the danger signs or wanting to follow an unhealthy desire of your heart? How does knowing that God will not give up on us (Philippians 1:6) encourage you?
