Beyond the Weekend: Finding Hope in Family Conflict

In Finding Hope in Family Conflict, Pastor Jeff Manion and other teachers examines the life of Jacob. This series helps us see we make many of the same mistakes as Jacob. Like God does with Jacob, he is patient with us and continues to draw us closer to him. When we learn to rely completely upon God, we are more able to successfully navigate the conflicts in our own life.

Jacob's Prayer

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE

But you have said, “I will surely make you prosper and will make your descendants like the sand of the sea, which cannot be counted.” Genesis 32:12

Read: Genesis 32:9-12

Listen: Genesis 32

TODAY'S MESSAGE

God had promised to bless Abraham and make his descendants numerous. God repeated that promise to Jacob as he fled home. Jacob fears the arrival of his brother Esau and he holds onto God's promise in his prayer.

His prayer is a moment of vulnerability. He acknowledges what God has done in his life, but also admits he is scared. In this moment, the only thing he has to hold onto is the promise of God.

There are times in our lives where the present seems overwhelming. We may be scared, anxious or stressed about a family conflict or difficult situation.

We may feel like we are living for God, but the future looks uncertain. It is in these moments that we can hold onto God’s promises. We can hold onto the fact that God is good, wise and can be trusted.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Spend some time thinking about the promises of God that you can hold onto. Write Psalm 9:9-10 on a 3x5 card or type in your mobile device. Memorize these verses to help you.
