THREE THINGS TO KNOW

DON’T MISS THIS

Women’s Ministry Thrive Gathering is October 21 at 7 pm. Join us for dessert and a special message from guest speaker and Ada Bible attender Kristi Huseby. Kristi is teaching on the power of God’s Word to transform our lives. It’s a message we all need to hear today. Details and register at adabible.org/thrivegathering.

GROUP VALUES

This month we are focused on the group value of service. Consider getting together as a group to serve the kids of Discovery Village at your campus by hosting and decorating a vehicle for our annual Trunk or Treat! Sign up here.

GROW AS A LEADER

Learn from and with other small group leaders at our Small Group Leader Huddle on November 7. If you need help as a leader, hear from other small group leaders on what works for them. If your group is going well, come share with us what’s working. Either way, we need you at the huddle. Register here.

DISCUSSION GUIDE

This week we continue our fall sermon series, Jesus & The City. Our discussion is how this story communicates that God goes to extraordinary measures to be known.

Choose one and explain why: book or movie?

Have someone read Acts 19:11-20 aloud (found on page 33 of the Jesus & The City journal). What do you hear that is surprising?

GOD WANTS HIS NAME TO BE KNOWN

God works miracles through Paul in Acts 19:11-12. How common do you think these kinds of experiences were?

How do these verses remind you of what Jesus did in the gospels?

God is shown to be the main character in this story. How is seeing God as the main character in the Bible a different way to read the Bible?

When have you seen God as the main character in your own life or in the life of someone you know?

GOD WANTS HIS NAME TO BE AT THE CENTER

Read Acts 19:13-16 aloud. Why do you think Luke includes this story?

These guys thought Jesus was a power they could use to get what they wanted. What are some ways that we tend to add Jesus to “the mix” of our lives?

How does the way we live reflect God’s reputation?

What are some things we can do to make sure we are an appropriate reflection of God?

GOD WANTS HIS NAME TO BE HONORED

Read Acts 19:17-20 aloud. What do you think the Ephesian believers are confessing in Acts 19:18?

Why do you think it is important to confess when we have the wrong attitude or have done something wrong?

How have you experienced the healing and life change that confession and repentance can bring?

What would it look like for our group to create an environment where confession is a normal part of our group experience?

Is there anything in your life today that isn’t honoring God, and you need to get rid of?

WRAP UP

This week we discussed how God wants to be known among us. Open your journal to page 35. Take a moment and write down a major takeaway from today’s conversation. Share it with your group and how they can be praying for you about that idea. Write the prayer requests on the same page.
