THREE THINGS TO KNOW

DON’T MISS THIS

GIVING TABLES are back! They are a great opportunity for your group to come together to support a local ministry. There could be someone in your group who would love to coordinate the group pooling your resources to help those in need. Lists and drop-off details at adabible.org/givingtables.

GROUP VALUES

This May, we’re focusing on SERVING. Will you reach out to someone in the community or an organization you can serve? Consider having one person in the group champion a project day for everyone to help with.

GROW AS A LEADER

When was the last time you checked in with your STAFF CONTACT? This is a good time to plan for summer, discuss what your group might study next or just meet for encouragement!

DISCUSSION GUIDE

Welcome to the first week in our sermon series, ENCOUNTERS WITH JESUS. We’ll talk about a one-on-one interaction Jesus had with a desperate woman.

What is something that delighted you today?

THIS WEEK’S TEXT

Have someone read Luke 8:40-56 aloud.

Who are all the characters in this story, and where are the action moments?

Compare and contrast the ways that Jairus and the woman approached Jesus.

What is something else that stands out to you in this passage?

THIS WEEK’S SERMON

Pastor Jeff Manion discussed Luke’s recording of Jesus’s miracle within a miracle story. As a group, recount his main teaching points.

Which one of these points stood out to you the most, and why?

In those times, anyone experiencing bleeding was ceremonially unclean. This woman should not have been in the crowd, let alone touching Jesus. What other situations or feelings might have caused her to break these rules?

Why do you think Jesus so intentionally commends this woman’s trust?

Jesus doesn’t often respond as we want or expect him to, but his responses are always personal. What does this tell you about the heart of God?

When we tell our stories, we get to highlight Jesus’s power and work in our lives. Share a time when someone’s story impacted you. Consider making a plan to share your spiritual stories as a group.

In the Gospels, as people encountered Jesus, they got to know him better. What specific ways do you encounter Jesus, and how has this made a difference in your life?

Is there anything else about the sermon you wanted to talk about?

WRAP UP

Today we discussed Jesus’s interaction with a woman who needed healing. What’s one way you will take a step of deeper faith this week because of our conversation?
