THREE THINGS TO KNOW

DON’T MISS THIS

BAPTISM is an outward expression of an inward change that occurs in our lives after we place our faith and trust in Christ. Lowering into the water symbolizes dying to our old life without God. We are then raised to a new life to live like Christ. Are you ready to take your next step and be baptized? Tap START A CONVERSATION under BAPTISM at Adabible.info>Info & Events.

GROUP VALUES

This July, we’re focusing on FORMATIVE CONVERSATIONS. Formative Conversations can happen at times we don’t always expect, even within a small group. We desire our small group discussions to be a time when we are formed in the character of Jesus. Make it a habit to pray before your group meets and ask God to help your group have formative conversations.

GROW AS A LEADER

Summer is a great time to check in with your STAFF CONTACT. Your staff contact would love to help you plan for the season, discuss what your group might study next, pray for you and your group or meet for encouragement!

DISCUSSION GUIDE

Welcome to the fifth week of our new sermon series, GOD IS. This week, we look at the important message God had for his people, Israel.

ICEBREAKER

What is something you enjoy doing during the 4th of July holiday?

THIS WEEK’S TEXT

Have someone read Exodus 20:1-6 aloud.

What details stand out to you in this passage?

How do you think the Israelites may have felt after hearing these words from God?

What does this passage reveal about God’s character?

THIS WEEK’S SERMON

Pastor Jeff Manion continued our God Is sermon series by discussing God’s message for the Israelites regarding their relationship with him. As a group, recall some of the sermon’s big ideas and main points.

How do people typically understand or respond to jealousy in our world?

How does understanding the context of Israel’s slavery, rescue and relationship with God change your perspective on God’s jealousy?

Our counterfeit gods often come in the forms of wealth, pleasure, fame and power. Which of these do you think is most prevalent in our society today, and why?

Pastor Jeff said something becomes a counterfeit god when we must have “it.” We turn good things into ultimate things. Where have you seen this happen in your life or the lives of others? What was the result?

Pastor Jeff said God’s jealousy is good news for us. Have you experienced this in your faith journey? If so, how?

What are the top two to three things that compete for your ultimate allegiance to God?

What practical steps can you take this week to replace what competes for your allegiance to God with a deeper affection for Jesus?

Which part of the sermon encouraged or challenged you the most, and why?

WRAP UP
