GROUP VALUES

This month we are highlighting the Spiritual Practice of Chair Time, our time alone with God. Discuss some of the obstacles to spending time alone with God. Brainstorm ways the group can encourage each other to be accountable to solitude with God.

GROW AS A LEADER

A few times a year, we gather together as small group leaders to learn, grow and encourage one another. At Small Group Huddles—we get better together. Register here to join other leaders to discuss one skill that can make all the difference in your group. Huddles will be via Zoom February 21 at 7 pm and February 25 at 8 pm.

DISCUSSION GUIDE

Welcome to the fourth week of The School of Contentment. Today the conversation is about how our affluence can make it challenging for us to train our hearts in contentment.

When was a time someone went above and beyond to serve or be generous to you?

Have someone read 1 Timothy 6:17-19 aloud. What words or commands jump out at you?

WHERE IS YOUR HOPE?

Paul wrote this message to the people of Ephesus, but it is for us as well. Pastor Jeff Manion encouraged us to realize that we are all quite wealthy. What are some of the ways we are wealthy compared to all the people who have lived before us?

How do we put our stuff in its rightful place and remember to instead keep our hope in God?

WHERE DO YOU SERVE?

Pastor Jeff says that humble, faithful servanthood is anti-arrogance training. How have you seen that to be true?

Have someone read aloud Mark 10:45. If we have come to know Christ, it is within our spiritual DNA to become known as someone who serves. What are some creative ways we can serve others right now?

HOW DO YOU SHARE?

We can keep money from controlling our hearts by giving it away. Paul says to be generous and to share. When have you experienced the freedom of giving to someone else?

We all get to make choices regarding our generosity. How does hearing Pastor Jeff’s story and the stories of others’ generosity encourage you to share?

WRAP UP

This conversation might be a mindset change to understand how wealthy we truly are and consider ways to serve and share with others. What’s one thing you can do this week to serve or share more?
