THREE THINGS TO KNOW

DON’T MISS THIS

This weekend Pastor Aaron Buer mentioned Beyond the Weekend (BTW). Talk about it in your group. If you use it, share with them how you’ve found it valuable. Sign up to receive BTW Monday–Friday each week at beyondtheweekend.org.

SERVICE

Serving is one of the core values of Christianity. Jesus said he came not to be served but to serve, and we follow his example. As a group, consider how you can serve together in the next month or so. Who will be the serving champion of your group?

GROW AS A LEADER

Heading into 2020, don’t forget about our Leader Facebook page. It’s a great place to connect with other leaders and stay up-to-date.

DISCUSSION GUIDE

Welcome to the second week of our series, Habits. This week’s discussion is about habits that help us make wise decisions.

What’s one fun thing you did for Christmas? What was a favorite gift you received or gave?

Have someone read Romans 12:1-2 aloud. What’s something new to you in this passage or something you had forgotten about?

THE HABIT OF SURRENDER

What does Paul say we should do with our bodies? What do you think he means by that?

How is obedience the highest form of worship?

Why do you think it is so easy for us to “climb back off the altar”? What are some ways you can integrate the habit of surrender into your Chair Time?

What does Paul mean when he says, “in view of God’s mercy”? What are some of the ways God has been merciful to us?

We surrender ourselves to God because God surrendered himself for us. What’s the difference between offering ourselves as a sacrifice to earn God’s favor versus doing it “in view of God’s mercy”?

One of the ways to give God our life is through accountability. How does this group encourage you to surrender to God? What are some ways your group can be better at helping each other grow in this area?

THE HABIT OF SCRIPTURE

What do you think Paul means when he says, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world”?

What are some of the ways we can easily be conformed to the pattern of this world?

Paul says to rewire our brains. How does spending time in God’s Word help us think differently?

We were encouraged to get to know God through his Word this year. What are some ways to turn up the volume on God’s voice? What one way will you turn up the volume on God’s voice this year?

WRAP UP

This week we discussed how to make better decisions. If we can develop the Habit of Surrender and the Habit of Scripture, what does Paul say will happen in Romans 12:2b? How does Paul describe God’s will? Why do you think he describes it that way?

What’s one thing you want to do differently because of our discussion today?
