THREE THINGS TO KNOW

DON’T MISS THIS

February 20/21, we begin our new series, Honest to God. This series explores some of the Psalms of Lament, showing us what an honest conversation with God looks like. This series will be meaningful for all seasons of life right now. We’re looking forward to it and know it should lead to some great conversation in your group.

GROUP VALUES

This month we are highlighting serving as we invest in others. The School of Contentment has taught us that everything we have is from God, and we can use our time and skills to help those in need. We have some great opportunities for you to serve our local community as a small group in a safe way. For more information, email Sheryl Thompson.

GROW AS A LEADER

Take your group discussion to the next level. Gather together as small group leaders to learn, grow and encourage one another. At Small Group Huddles—we get better together. Register here to join other leaders to discuss one skill that can make all the difference in your group. Huddles will be via Zoom February 21 at 7 pm and February 25 at 8 pm.

DISCUSSION GUIDE

Welcome to the final week of The School of Contentment. This week, Pastor Aaron Buer helps us see how to find real wealth.

As a kid, what were some things that your friends (maybe wealthier ones) had that you wished you could have?

Have someone read 1 Timothy 6:6-10 aloud. What are some key words in this passage?

WHAT WE HAVE

Have someone read Philippians 3:8 aloud. Why do you think Paul makes such a big contrast in this verse?

Paul says Godliness + Contentment = Real Wealth. How can understanding what we have through Jesus help us be godly?

WHAT WE NEED

Paul wants the Ephesian believers to know that if they have food and clothes—they have everything they need. Why is this such a relevant message for the church in Ephesus and for us?

Paul says we come into the world with nothing and leave with nothing. It’s easy for us to think we will find value and worth through wealth or possessions. How do you find yourself thinking that way?

WHAT WE WANT

Money isn’t the problem, but instead the love of it and the desire for it. It can cause real problems. How have you seen the pursuit of or love of money “shipwreck” someone?

What are some ways you can guard yourself against a shipwreck?

Godliness and contentment go hand in hand. They lead to real wealth. Have someone read Philippians 4:13 aloud. How have you experienced God strengthening you in your pursuit of contentment?

THE SCHOOL OF CONTENTMENT

This week is the final week of the series. As a group, review some of the main points of the series. Have each person share their big takeaway.

WRAP UP

Today’s conversation was about real wealth. We see that Godliness + Contentment = Real Wealth. What’s one thing you want to do differently this week to find real wealth.
