GROUP VALUES

This August, we’re focusing on the value of an invitation. One way to invest in others is to INVITE them to attend church with you. We started this weekend with an important sermon series about helping people without hindering what God has created them for. DISCUSSION GUIDE

This week we begin a new series, HELPING WITHOUT HURTING. This week we consider some core dynamics of how to care from the story of Ruth.

What was a highlight of your past week?

THIS WEEK’S TEXT

Have someone read Ruth 2 aloud.

What stands out to you most in this story?

Ruth and Naomi were both widows with no children. What sort of hardships were they facing?

Ruth was a Moabite who traveled with Naomi back to Israel. What is the significance of this?

THIS WEEK’S SERMON

Pastor Jeff talked about how to care for others with wisdom and compassion. As a group, name his main points.

Which one of the points stood out to you the most, and why?

Boaz could have just given Naomi and Ruth bread to eat but instead allowed them to glean from the fields. What is the significance of this?

Some forms of helping others can hurt those we intend to help. Where have you seen this happen?

Helping others well often requires both wisdom and compassion. How can you practice these two parts when you help someone this coming week?

What were some principles given in the sermon that you can apply this week?

Is there anything else about the sermon you wanted to talk about?
