THREE THINGS TO KNOW

DON’T MISS THIS

We can’t wait to start our fall sermon series September 19/20 called The Company of Christ. We’re discussing the Gospel of Mark as we explore Jesus’ training of his disciples for his mission. We have created a Fall Resource Kit (our fall journal + more) to help you engage with this series in an impactful way. Visit adabible.info to request your Fall Resource Kit.

GROUP VALUES

This month we are focusing on Care inside the group. We have a unique opportunity for our groups to care for each other this fall. There will likely be varying views on issues within our group, including on COVID-19, politics and social justice. One significant way to care is to respect each other even when someone has a different point of view.

GROW AS A LEADER

As we head into the fall season, make sure you are a part of our online leader community. Join our Ada Bible Small Groups Leaders Facebook page to interact with the Group Life staff and other leaders.

DISCUSSION GUIDE

Welcome to the final week of our series, Leaning In. This week we will be talking about four significant choices we can make when normal goes out the window to experience spiritual movement.

What are some of your favorite Labor Day memories?

Have a few people take turns to reading aloud through Acts 11:19-26. What’s stands out to you about this story?

CHOOSE THE MISSION

Normal goes out the window for the early church. As they scatter, they spread the good news of Jesus instead of just focusing on themselves. Why is it often easy to just focus on ourselves during periods of disruption?

What are some ways we can choose God’s mission in the midst of our current season?

CHOOSE TO INVEST

Barnabas heads to the new Jesus-community in Antioch. When he gets there, he spiritually invests in them by walking alongside and encouraging them to keep growing. What are some opportunities you have to invest in those around you spiritually?

CHOOSE TO INCLUDE

Have someone read aloud Acts 13:1. The list of church leaders is incredibly diverse. The church in Antioch seems to have made the choice to include people of different backgrounds. Who do you feel like you need to work harder to include? What’s one thing you can do to include them?

CHOOSE TO LET GO

Have someone read Acts 13:2-3 aloud. The Antioch church is birthed from the disruption in Jerusalem. Just as they seem to establish a new normal in Antioch, God tells them to send Paul and Barnabas on. The church has to let go of two of its key leaders. Whether in a season of normal or a season of disruption, God often calls us to let go of something. What are some reasons God might call us to let go?

What is something you felt God has called you to give up in the past or might be asking you to give up now?

WRAP UP

This week we talked about significant decisions for spiritual growth we can make when normal goes out the window. Which choice do you feel like you need to focus on? What’s one thing you can do to focus on it?
