GROUP VALUES

This April, we focus on the value of providing a SAFE ENVIRONMENT. We want group members to feel welcome and open to talking about life, faith and struggles. One way to foster a safe environment is to encourage members to open up, especially those who might struggle to do so. Take time this week to affirm any member (who might usually struggle) when they share.

GROW AS A LEADER

Do you wonder how to help your group members grow? Check out the book Making Small Groups Work. Authors Henry Cloud and John Townsend provide small group leaders with valuable guidance and information about how they can help their groups grow spiritually, emotionally and relationally.

DISCUSSION GUIDE

Welcome to the third week of our sermon series, REKINDLE. This week, we consider the Apostle Paul’s charge to Timothy regarding spiritual multiplication.

ICEBREAKER

Who has invested in your spiritual growth and made a big impact on your faith?

THIS WEEK’S TEXT

Have someone read 2 Timothy 2:1-7 aloud.

In 2 Timothy 2:2, Paul instructs Timothy to entrust certain things to reliable people. What, specifically, is Timothy to entrust to them?

What images does Paul use in this passage, and what do you think they have in common?

How do those three images illustrate the point Paul is making?

What questions do you have about this passage?

THIS WEEK’S SERMON

Pastor Jeff Manion continued our Rekindle sermon series by teaching about the necessity to stay faithful to gospel work and passing on what we have learned. As a group, recall some of the sermon’s big ideas or main points.

Which cultural voices or influences can distract Christians from wholeheartedly pursuing their faith in Jesus?

What potential distractions in your life divert your energy and passion away from spiritual priorities?

Which illustration—soldier, athlete or farmer—most inspires or challenges you to persevere in gospel work, and why?

How have you seen believers exemplify doing the work of Jesus well, in the way of Jesus?

When do you find yourself growing weary or losing focus in passing on the gospel message and making disciples?

What are practical ways you can “be strong in the grace of the Lord Jesus” when you feel weary or lose focus?

Who are you actively investing in to further multiply disciples across generations? If you aren’t currently investing in someone, what is holding you back?

The Apostle Paul urged Timothy to reflect on Paul’s words and said the Lord would give him insight. How can you spend time reflecting on the message this week and listen for the Lord’s insight?

Which part of the sermon encouraged or challenged you the most, and why?

WRAP UP

Today, we talked about staying faithful in our spiritual lives and gospel work. What is your one big takeaway from our conversation today?
