Reporting Relationship: Medical Services Director

Days Worked: Tuesday, Thursday, Friday

Required Hours: Part-time; 20 hours per week

Position Summary:

The primary purpose of the sonographer is to provide ultrasound support to Medical Services, inclusive of performing both complete and limited obstetrical ultrasounds according to AIUM guidelines. Able to confidently perform both transabdominal and transvaginal ultrasound for the purpose of confirming intrauterine pregnancy, assess fetal cardiac activity, and determine gestational age.

Specific Responsibilities:

Patient Relations:

  • Perform an obstetrical ultrasound on patients determined to be at-risk for abortion services and provide patient education regarding fetal development during scan.

  • Collaboratively work with the advocates and nurses to provide pertinent information obtained during ultrasound to help guide what the next step for the patient will be, according to the patient process.

  • Follow up with patients regarding ultrasound reports as requested, under direct supervision of Medical Services Nurse.

  • Assist with transport of ultrasound reports to and from supervising physician as directed.

Administrative Support:

  • Track inventory of supplies for ultrasounds.

  • Work closely with the Medical Services Director, staff, and volunteers regarding patient flow, patient needs, and day-to-day processes.

  • Understand the importance of confidentiality and adhere to the confidentiality policy as well as other medical policies and procedures.

  • Communicate accurately in oral and written ultrasound exam reports.

  • Attend Medical Services department meetings and PRC all-staff meetings.

  • Assist at PRC events as requested.

  • Represent the PRC at community and networking functions as requested.

  • Monitor maintenance and service needs of the ultrasound units as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Position Requirements:

  • 2-5 years of relevant experience in sonography

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent experience in related field required

  • ARDMS certification required (in RADIOLOGY/OBGYN, RADIOLOGY/SONOGRAPHY)

  • Detail-oriented

  • Organizational skills

  • Ability to learn, teach, and inform

  • Background in cultural competence

  • Ability to build and retain positive relationships

  • Ability to remain focused and calm under pressure of multiple tasks and interruptions

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality while working with highly sensitive data

  • Previous work with Human Services or ministry

  • Excellent verbal and written skills

  • Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Ability to lift 25 pounds

  • Possess a valid driver’s license as well as reliable transportation (necessary for position requirements)
