Social Worker 

Full Time: 30-45 hours a week. 

Compensation: Salary based on history and experience.

Education Preferred: Bachelors of Social Work, Criminal Justice, Ministry, or related field

 

Minimum Qualifications

  1. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one year of experience with an individual(s) whose everyday lives are impacted by ongoing trauma or a traumatic experience.

  2. At least 22 years of age

  3. Demonstrated communications skills in listening and speaking

  4. Demonstrated time management skills

  5. Demonstrated competence as services and supports to families.

  6. Possession of a valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation

 

Preferred Qualifications :

Knowledge of trauma-informed theories, principles, and practices (includes multi-

faceted understanding of concepts such as community trauma, intergenerational and

historical trauma, parallel processes, and universal precautions).

 

The Role:
The Social Worker will serve as a member of the Community Kids (CK) Leadership Team and be a champion of the CK ministry values and mission, helping guide kids, mentors and families in crisis situations and trauma. They will help create and execute a system that tracks the progress of kids and families navigating through difficult times. The social worker will help lead groups for kids who are struggling emotionally.

  3. You feel called to the city’s neighborhoods, wherever the kids may be.

  4. You desire vibrant relationships with co-workers, volunteers and supporters of this ministry.

  5. You have the ability to work in unpredictable and unsecured situations. 

  6. You love Jesus and want kids to be led by Him. 

 

Responsibilities and Key Tasks

 

Administration 

  1. Create and maintain reports of kids and families dealing with trauma.

  2. Keep accurate and organized assesements, plans, and progress reports for all kids to ensure that there are no undocumented breaks between meetings with kids. 

 

Direct Care and Support

  1. Meet regularly with kids going through traumatic experiences. 

  2. Support mentors who are dealing with kids having emotional difficulty 

  3. Be present at Community Kids programs such as Bible Club, retreats, trips, and camps to assist kids who are having problems. 

Program Development 

  1. Develop class and groups for kids who are struggling emotionally and are under discipline.  

  2. Create training and seminars for staff, mentors, parents, volunteers, and kids on how to develop good spiritual and mental health. 

 

Connector

  1. Research and connect with agencies that can assist families.  

  2. Organize a team of professionals to advise and assist with different needs.

  3. Connect families and kids with resources that can help them in times of crisis.

 

Working Relationships for the Social Worker

  1. Reports to the Mission Vision Director

  2. Regularly presents organizational progress to the CK board of directors. 

  3. Works with Mentors, mentor specialists, and teen interns.

 

Personal Requirements

 

Be in relationship with other Christians

  1. Meet with a small group for accountability in becoming more like Christ. 

  2. Routinely check-in with one another — celebrate victories and be there for losses.

  3. Share Christ as you journey through life together. 

 

Maintain a prayer and testimony ministry

  1. Participate in prayer meetings at local churches. 

  2. Send out monthly prayer updates to a large group of prayer supporters, routinely send out prayer and praise requests.

  3. Continually share prayer requests with the community and testify to God’s ongoing work in the lives of kids. 

 

Maintain a relational fundraising ministry (see the “commitments for compensation” sheet for detailed list of commitments)

  1. Continually make needs and opportunities known to people in the community, personally inviting them to participate in the lives of kids with resources that God has given them. 

  2. Invest in the lives of donors by setting up care appointments to encourage them towards love and good deeds.  

  3. Mass communicates with donors by helping create quarterly and annual reports.
