Job Description

Other Ministries - Full-time

Olivet Evangelical Free Church has a long, rich history of youth ministry in the Muskegon area. 

We are seeking a Pastor of Student ministries who also has a heart to see our youth and greater congregation engaged in acts of mercy and service to our community.

Position details:

Student Ministries: (70%)

  • Peer community of believers for students

  • Valuable relationship between students and believing adults to help each student feel known and loved

  • Students are challenged to grow and own their faith

  • Opportunities for students to serve in the community

Mercy Ministries:  (30%)

  • Lay leadership for Mercy Ministries

  • Deep partnership with at least one parachurch organization and limited partnerships with others

  • Increased awareness and understanding of community needs and higher levels of serving engagement in our congregation

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Seek out and relationally connect with students, parents, and potential Mercy Ministry leaders.

  • Seek out and network with area rescue ministries consistent with Olivet’s vision and help establish strong relationships with a few, key ministries.

  • Identify and mentor adults who have the traits and maturity to become youth or Mercy Ministry leaders.

  • Ensure high quality, biblically-based education for Student and Mercy Ministries.

  • Maintain an accurate, regularly updated background screening process.

  • Develop strategies for both Youth and Mercy Ministries that foster disciplemaking and are aligned with Olivet’s vision.

  • Align strategies and plans with Senior Pastor, Children’s Ministry Director, and Young Adults and Young Families on a regular basis.

  • Promote ministry opportunities that encourage faith in action and the development of relationships.

  • Regularly encourage and support Youth and Mercy Ministry leaders and provide means for them to connect and grow.

  • Communicate regularly with congregation and parents with encouraging content or event information.

  • Consistent lifestyle and personal example of following Christ 

  • Agreement with Olivet Statement of Faith and Mission/Vision Statements

 

Education/Experience:  Bachelor’s degree in ministry leadership 

Skills and Abilities:

 

  • Well organized and able to use technology for ministry

  • A go-getter, able to try new things and get things done

  • Able to quickly build strong relationships

  • Strong communicator with stage presence
