Neighborhood Youth  Worker/Director

 

Hours: Full Time or part-time 

Wages: (salary or hourly pay negotiable)

 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Neighborhood Youth Worker/Director will serve kids and families by being a Christ-led mentor and finding Christ-led mentors for kids.  They will be tasked with helping with overall mission by helping kids from being involved with the mentoring process by going to camp, getting involved in Bible club and churches, and developing relationships with caring adults to mentor them.

 

POSITION BREAKDOWN

 

Relational Outreach and Discipleship with kids in the neighborhood:

  • Connect with and befriend kids, teens and parents in the context of the neighborhood — at parks, community centers, front porches and McDonald’s. 

  • Plan and facilitate worldview-expandings trips for neighborhood kids, volunteers, mentors, would-be mentors and parents to participate in. This could be roller skating, boating, biking, museum trips, etc.

  • Invite, pick up kids and their parents to participate in local church services each Sunday and take them out to eat after.

  • Lead a small group of kids in life on life mentoring. Commit to Life on Life discipleship: regularly praying, playing, studying the Bible and eating together. Rejoice and celebrate victories together, and be there for losses.

  • Do individual life mentoring of kids , set up appointments to listen and share with them, encourage them towards love, good deeds, goals and overcoming obstacles.Focus your attention towards things that are important to the kids — attend games, concerts and plays.

  • Do in-home visits with kids and parents.

  • Participate in camps and retreats with kids.

  • Utilize your gifts and passions in connecting with kids. (sports ministry, music ministry, board game ministry)

 

Relational recruitment and management of volunteers and mentors

  • Network with church partners to help recruit volunteers and mentors

  • Assist volunteers in engaging with kids.

  • Set up times to meet volunteers to ensure they are equipped and empowered to serve kids.

 

Administration and Support: 

  • Assist in intaking, registering and connecting kids in programs such as Bible Club, small groups, interest groups, retreats, camps and church. 

  • Communicate with Partners in ministry through text and emails.

  • Be prepared to step into social work situations and help families as needed (could include filing CPS reports, delivering food to families or assisting with a housing search)

Relational fundraising ministry 

  • Send out monthly updates to a large group of prayer supporters. 

  • Make needs and opportunities known to people in the community, personally inviting them to participate in the lives of kids with resources that God has given them.

  • Have meetings with donors to encourage each other towards love and good deeds.  

REQUIREMENTS AND ABILITIES

  • Degree in social work, psychology, Bible, Ministry, nonprofit admin or a similar field or equivalent experience preferred, but not required.  

  • Prior work in an urban ministry environment is a plus, but not required.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Ability to take ideas from and work alongside both visionaries and detail-oriented people.

  • Focus in stressful situations.

  • Passion for kids and urban youth ministry.

  • Have the ability to work in unpredictable and unsecured situations. 

  • Be a self starter, and when you see issues, you take initiative.     

Reporting & Working Relationships

The Neighborhood Youth Worker/Director will report to the Executive Director and Mission Vision Director of Community Kids to ensure they are hitting their mentoring relational goals. 

 

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT REQUIREMENTS

  • Be in relationship with other Christians

  • Maintain a prayer and testimony ministry

  • Participate in prayer meetings at local churches. 

  • Be willing to receive on-going training for the work in the ministry. 

  • Continually share prayer requests with the community and testify to God’s ongoing

  • work in the lives of kids.
