Job Title: Medical Services Nurse (RN)

Department: Medical Services

Reporting Relationship: Medical Services Director

Days Worked: TBD

Required Hours: 24 – 27 Hours per Week, Hourly (Non-exempt)

Position Summary:

The Medical Services Nurse role is expected to perform pregnancy tests, take a basic health history and discuss the effects of sexually transmitted diseases, work with the Advanced Practice Provider to see clients for STD testing and follow up as needed, as well as administer treatment for positive STDs when directed; prepares the patient for ultrasounds. This individual will also be able to adhere to the Optimization Tool process; and perform other duties as assigned.

Specific Responsibilities:

Patient Care Responsibilities

  • Adhere to the Optimization Tool process

  • Provide quality and consistent care

  • Perform point of care pregnancy testing and STD testing as needed

  • Provide STD treatment according to protocol by preparing and administering medication when directed

  • Take a basic health history and give information according to the nursing script

  • Close out the patient at the end of the appointment, giving information and providing a copy of the verification of pregnancy and the personalized solutions assessment.

  • Work together with the advocate and sonographer to determine according to the patient process what the next step for the patient will be

  • Responsible to complete follow-up on ultrasound reports and STD testing results, as well as provide reports to patients’ health-care providers as requested, per privacy policy

  • Provides support to Medical Services staff, relying on existing protocols and policies and the Medical Director

  • Refers patients to:

    • Other health-care providers for issues that are outside the role’s defined scope of practice

    • The emergency department, if warranted by patient’s condition

    • Other community care or service providers who can assist the patient to address specific needs

  • Perform additional duties as assigned


Patient Care Responsibilities

  • Documents professional assessment and plan of care in patient record in a timely manner

  • Commits to PRC Privacy and Security Policy

  • Collaborates with the Medical Services Director and Compliance Consultant as needed for new or updated clinical policies and protocols

  • Attend PRC and community events as requested

  • Attend PRC all-staff meetings and Medical Services department meetings

  • Establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with volunteer medical service providers, members of the medical committee, referral providers, and the Medical Director


Position Requirements:

  • RN licensure in the State of Michigan

  • At least three to five years of experience working in a medical setting (preferably in Obstetrics or Emergency Department)

  • Experience with venipuncture for specimen collection

  • Exhibits strong commitment and dedication to the sanctity of all human life

  • Christian concern for others and the ability to listen and relate to clients

  • Sensitivity to cultural issues and their impact on health care

  • Ability to work in a team environment

  • Ability to work independently with the judgment necessary to collaborate in a timely and appropriate manner

  • Willing to promote the mission of PRC and help volunteers and staff to embrace ministry to a diverse population

  • Ability to lift 25 pounds
