The Opportunity
This position will work closely with the VP & General Counsel to provide legal services to RDV Corporation and its affiliates related to a comprehensive range of matters including but not limited to real estate and personal property asset transactions, drafting/reviewing/negotiating corporate contracts, certain investment matters, structuring and negotiation, human resources advisement, and risk mitigation. This position will be relied upon for sound knowledge and understanding of applicable laws and regulations and the ability to make prudent legal recommendations. This position will work collaboratively with both internal and external partners to provide best in class service and achieve desired outcomes for the organization and related parties.

What You’ll Do
- Provide critical and proactive legal advice and recommend innovative solutions that strategically align with desired outcomes.
- Have foresight and the ability to identify legal issues related to a variety of areas. Present a summary of issues in a concise and direct manner.
- Work collaboratively with the VP & General Counsel, internal leaders, and external partners to develop alternative and creative ways to best accomplish superior results.
- Mitigate legal risk, ensuring the organization’s interests and assets are protected against legal risk and concerns.
- Serve as the in-house legal expert involving commercial and residential real estate, including new builds and renovations, as well as various other traditional and alternative asset class purchasing transactions.
- With a primary focus on commercial and residential real estate, draft, review, and negotiate various contracts and agreements for the organization and related entities.
- Research incoming issues and concerns as assigned. Follow through by providing sound recommendations based on existing knowledge, facts and newly acquired information.
- Remain cognizant of contract expirations and renewals. Proactively engage all necessary parties in proposed contract revisions, renewals, and contract terminations.
- Work with the VP & General Counsel to determine when to engage with expert outside legal counsel.
- Recommend and document legal policies and procedures/best practices.
- Assist with responses to internal and external requests for information, reporting, etc. as needed.
- Develop and maintain close working relationship with leaders of affiliate entities to support real estate and other investment work.
- Collaborate effectively throughout the organization, and also with related parties, on due diligence to facilitate transactions, coordinate financing and ensuring risk coverage.
- Participate as a strong contributor helping to provide expertise and backup capacity, while also learning and developing individual expertise.
- Other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Bring
- A juris doctor (JD) from a law school approved for accreditation by the American Bar Association, a member in good standing of the Bar of the Supreme Court of the State where practicing law and the eligibility for such license and standing in Michigan.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience as a practicing attorney. Experience in Corporate Law, M&A and Real Estate or Asset Management is a plus.
- Commitment to the highest ethical and professional standards, personal and professional integrity, and unquestioned discretion in maintaining confidentiality.
- History of working within a business where relevant knowledge and experience was gained is a plus.
- Identify and leverage available resources in order to provide counsel on new and existing applicable laws and regulations.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment while managing multiple complex matters simultaneously.
- Ability to employ a strategic and tactical approach to issue resolution.
- Confident, concise, and clear communicator. Ability to communicate complex legal issues and risks to colleagues and clients.
- Superior oral and written communication and presentation skills.
- Proven strong interpersonal skills, ability to foster team collaboration.
- Must be highly attentive to detail and possess strong analytical and negotiating skills.
- Comprehensive knowledge of real estate regulatory and compliance environment.
- Record of and ability to exercise excellent judgment on behalf of clients.
