Job Description: Head Chef

Department: Dietary

Reports to: Administrator

Description of Position:

The Chef is in charge of cooking meals for 40+ residents in a licensed residential care setting.

The Cook oversees positions of dietary aides. The cooks will be in charge of following menu and preparing meals for 50+ residents. The dietary aides are in charge of serving meals and clean-up.

Prior experience cooking for large groups is required, those with backgrounds in special diets and consistencies are preferred.


  • Prepare monthly menus and follow recipes provided by GFS to meet nutritional values of residents
  • Keep all menus and recipes and all alternate meals for at least 90 days as required by licensing
  • Make sure all food and refrigerator temps are logged as required
  • Track resident likes and dislikes, as well as allergies and ensure resident safety.
  • Report all resident dietary issues to the nurse, if any swallowing difficulty is noted notify nurse immediately
  • Keep kitchen clean and sanitary at all times
  • Order as directed, kitchen manager is responsible for budget and orders
  • Train new cooks and provide a positive dining experience
  • Ensure kitchen in cleaned, stocked, and disinfected per infection control
  • Stock memory care kitchen daily
  • Prepare special snacks, birthday cakes, etc
