General Labor - Full-time

The Opportunity
With initiative and attention to detail, the Grounds Assistant will perform and coordinate grounds and facility maintenance at a private estate. This position is primarily at the main residence but will also be required to assist at other properties.

Location and Hours

The position is primarily located at a private residence in Ada; with some work at other Ada properties, in Holland, Michigan and in Vero Beach, Florida.

Full-time position with typical hours of Monday – Friday, 7:30am – 4:00pm; additional hours, weekends, and holidays as needed.

What You’ll Do

Grounds Maintenance

  • Work with the Property Manager and team members to perform responsibilities.
  • General yard work, mowing, trimming, edging, pruning, fertilizing, pest control, etc.
  • Plant, weed, and water annuals, landscaping and gardens.
  • Clear driveways, parking areas, and walkways daily; maintain trail system.
  • Tend to snow and ice removal; prepare ice rink.
  • Care for, maintain, and repair tools, maintenance equipment, and lawn equipment. 

Facilities Maintenance

  • Develop knowledge of household systems (AV, HVAC, lighting, appliances, etc.). 
  • Interior maintenance – lighting, painting, inspections, repairs.
  • Exterior maintenance – painting, cleaning surfaces and furniture, maintain fixtures and accessories; gate, camera, chicken coop, and irrigation maintenance.
  • Maintain cleanliness and operation of fireplaces; keep wood bins fully stocked.
  • Conduct routine maintenance of spa and ensure cleanliness of surrounding deck area.
  • Place trash and recycling for collection on scheduled days; wash receptacles as needed. 
  • Maintain, clean, and detail the interiors and exteriors of family automobiles
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of maintenance buildings and mechanical rooms.

General

  • Pick up/drop off people, cars, luggage, recreational vehicles as needed.
  • Assist with holiday decorating including hanging and removal of decorations.
  • Maintain bicycles and kids toys.
  • Assist with guiding and overseeing contractors to ensure desired outcomes.
  • Run errands as requested.
  • Assist in various projects and special events that arise.
  • Exercise open communication with Property Manager regarding operational needs, desired outcomes, and recommendations.
  • Assist other household staff as needed, e.g., moving furniture, lifting heavy objects, cleaning, putting together furniture, etc.
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with co-workers; must be a team player and willing to help other staff members.  Share best practices and knowledge.
  • Utilize computer for household email and computer-based mechanical systems.
  • Travel to other properties as needed.
  • Ensure safe and proper use of all equipment.  Complies with all PPE requirements.


What You’ll Bring

  • Landscaping, grounds, and home maintenance experience.
  • General knowledge and basic skill level in household maintenance trades.
  • Must be a responsible, dependable, and self-directed person of highest integrity; organized and reliable; positive in attitude; and demonstrate pride in service provided.
  • Attention to detail and follow-through is essential.  Able to problem solve.
  • Must possess basic computer skills and be comfortable using computers.
  • Must work effectively and cooperatively with household team and outside vendors.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Ability to obtain licensure required for pesticide application, aerial lift, and forklift.


Additional Requirements

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in grounds, landscaping, or property maintenance.
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Responsibilities are conducted in the home(s) of the client of RDV Staffing.  While an employer/employee relationship exists, it is important that employee is genuinely committed to being part of the household team whose goal is to contribute to a collaborative home environment.
  • Preservation of a peaceful household atmosphere is essential.  Responsibilities must be carried out with minimum of intrusiveness into activities of the family.  This requires flexibility and ingenuity with sensitivity to privacy of family members at all times.

Essential Physical Demands

  • Required to wear employer-provided uniform when applicable.
  • Required to wear appropriate employer-provided safety equipment as required.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds to a maximum height of 6 feet; occasional lifting to 80 pounds.
  • Ability to stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and remain standing on feet for lengthy periods.
  • Ability to safely operate power machinery and lawn care tools, e.g. backpack blower, string trimmers, mowers, chain saw, tractor, plow, snow blower, aerial lift, forklift, etc.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
