Family Ministries Pastor Job Description
Family Ministry Definition: At Green Lake Calvary Church (GLCC) we believe the Church should partner with parents to equip and support them as the primary spiritual leaders in a child’s life. The Church seeks to strengthen families, support the integration of faith into daily life, and intentionally contribute to the making of disciples in a way that fosters intergenerational relationships. The Family Ministries Pastor is a man with a deep love for Jesus Christ and His people and a passion for Family Ministry. Able to thrive in a team environment, he envisions and energizes a community that is grounded in engaging, creating, and empowering disciples and equipping the saints to do the work of ministry.
The Family Ministries Pastor will:
• Hold a clear vision and philosophy of Family Ministry that is in harmony with GLCC.
• Lead in a participative leadership style (one who works with a group to arrive at a decision) and, as appropriate, delegate work to others.
• Work willingly under the leadership of the church Elders and Senior Pastor, receiving direction through the Senior Pastor and remaining aligned with the Elder Board’s ministry priorities.
The Family Ministries Pastor is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating ministry plans that support GLCC’s family ministry philosophy, strengthen discipleship across age groups, and equip parents and volunteers for faithful ministry.
General Responsibilities
• Lead and cast vision for family-related ministries, including children’s ministry, student ministry, and programs that equip and support families with children.
• Select and implement curriculum that spans multiple age groups, from preschool through high school, as well as parenting resources.
• Recruit, train, equip, and mentor volunteers for Family Ministries.
• Ensure that child safety and security procedures are in place, operational, and clearly communicated. Train administrators, volunteers, parents, and others who use the child safety and security system.
• Coordinate and maintain the Family Ministries calendar by creating and updating events on the church-wide calendar.
• Lead Family Ministries in a manner that complements the goals and philosophies of GLCC.
• Provide direction and supervision for ministry intern(s), when applicable, to help Family Ministries thrive.
• Oversee the scheduling, background checks, and other management aspects for volunteers.
• Take on other job duties, as assigned by the Senior Pastor.
Family and Parenting Ministries:
• Provide training and pastoral support for parents.
• Work with fellow pastors and staff to provide parent discipleship opportunities, including ABF groups, seminars, and other activities or training.
Children’s Ministry Responsibilities (ages birth-5th Grade):
• Recruit, train, and supervise lay leaders in the following programs- Nursery, Sunday School, Children’s Church, King’s Kids, Vacation Bible School, & Future new ministries.
• Coordinate the curriculum in these areas and develop specific educational and spiritual goals.
• Work closely with lay leaders to ensure clear communication between leaders and the congregation.
Student Ministry Responsibilities (Middle School and High School):
• Recruit, train, and supervise lay leaders in the middle school and high school ministries.
• Coordinate the curriculum in these areas and develop specific educational and spiritual goals.
• Develop, update, and monitor an annual plan for the middle school and high school programs with lay leaders.
• Have personal involvement in discipleship with youth and adult leaders.
• Provide opportunities where the gospel is presented to teens.
• Encourage lay leaders to mentor two or three youth with the goal of developing them for future youth group leadership.
• Take organizational responsibility for any youth service project or trip.
• Partner with the parents and lay leaders of middle and high school students to establish and maintain opportunities for communication, support, and fellowship.
Administrative & Financial Responsibilities:
• Facilitate clear and consistent communication with the congregation regarding Family Ministries.
• Prepare reports, letters, memos, etc., as needed.
• Assist with special projects, as directed by the Elder Board or the Senior Pastor.
• Monitor budgets/spending for children’s ministry, student ministry, and youth mission trips as needed.
• Provide a monthly written report of activities and proposals to the Elder Board or Senior Pastor.
Employment Parameters:
• The position requires regular participation in Sunday ministries, occasional evening and weekend activities, and availability for ministry events, retreats, trips, and seasonal programs as scheduled.
• Reports to: Senior Pastor
• Position: Full Time (40+ hours)
• Compensation: $45,000–$60,000 salary, plus parsonage, commensurate with experience, training, and qualifications.
Experience & Qualifications:
• Master’s degree preferred; Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field required
• Five years of ministry experience
• Ordination preferred
• Demonstrate agreement with GLCC’s statement of faith, ministry philosophy, and leadership expectations, and model a life consistent with the character qualifications expected of church leadership.
