ROLE
The Barn Assistant is responsible for the care and maintenance of the workin ghobby farm located on a private estate, inclduing providing animal care and feedings, as well as cleaning and maintaining the barn facility and animal enclosures. The Barn Assistant role is a seasonal, full-time hourly non-exempt position. Standard schedule will be 8 hour shifts, Monday – Thursday, with some weekend requirements. The primary work location for this position is located on-site at the farm in Ada, MI.
RESPONSIBILITIES
· Daily feeding, grooming, cleaning, and care of animals
· Daily horse handling and occasional riding
· Maintenance and cleaning of barn facilities, including animal enclosures and staff facilities
· Interacting and sharing knowledge of farm and animals with occasional visitors and during various events
· Assist with building and grounds maintenance tasks, such as:
o Organizing and cleaning buildings, rooms, and other areas
o Janitorial duties
o Special projects and requests of Head(s) of Household
· Other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS
· Horse handling and riding experience
· Experience caring for farm animals, including miniature donkeys, goats, chickens, and cats
· Ability to maintain a highly productive work output without immediate supervision
· Ability to lift 30 pounds to a maximum height of 6 feet, including occasional lifting up to 80 pounds
· Ability to stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and remain standing and walking on feet for lengthy periods of time
· Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions
