Job Description

Nanny / Childcare - Part-time

We are looking for a Monday babysitter for our almost 3 year old son with Down Syndrome, Aiden. Aiden is a joyful and sweet little boy who will be 3 in April this year. He enjoys reading, playing, music/singing, and much more! He is walking and mostly non-verbal at this stage, though he does know a few signs and will babble and point to things to show you what he wants. He is in PT, OT & speech therapies, so I leave notes on a board in our home if there things we are working on with him to encourage speech & feeding. He is small for his age so we still do bottle feedings with a nutrient rich formula, but he also loves solid foods & purees and has a hearty appetite.

We are looking for a Monday sitter from 7:30-3:30 and possible occassional Thursdays (if my grandmother can’t watch him). Flexibility for ending time in the afternoon is a plus, as my husband Andrew is a middle school counselor who coaches tennis in the spring, so the 3:30 time will be pushed back to likely 4:30 or 5 at some point. Aiden will be attending Early Childhood Special Education school in the fall (mornings) so we are looking for someone who could stay on for longer than just this spring if possible to watch him after school on Mondays. Summer is flexible for us as my husband is in a school but picks up jobs during the summer, so availibility through the summer is a plus but not essential if you can’t. My job is flexible and I work just 10 minutes from our home, so if there are issues, I can be home quickly. We do have a high energy Australian Shepherd named Jax who sheds, so keep that in mind if you have allergies. We are putting in a fence this spring for the dog, and you do not have to walk him while you watch Aiden.

Aiden has had a complex medical past but is currently very healthy. There may be Mondays where you don’t have to come in until later because of a doctors appointment for him. Aiden has been in remission for 19 months for acute myeloid leukemia and had open heart surgery at 6 weeks of age. His heart is “fixed” and he is not on any medication for it. In terms of cancer, he has no tubes or other issues that you need to be concerned about while watching him. You would never know by looking at Aiden that he has been sick in the past. He is a very busy, typical toddler who will keep you on your toes but love you forever once you’re his friend. If you are interested in watching our sweet little guy, please send me an email with a resume and 2 references and we can set up a meeting! Thank you!
