Position title: Men’s Center Director

Position type: Staff (full-time, salaried)

Salary Range: $61,000 - $64,000

Department: Men’s Center

Reports to: Vice President of Client Services

Basic function of position: The Men’s Center Director is responsible for the day-to-day operations of Alpha Men’s Center (AMC), which include the implementation of the policies and procedures approved by the Board of Directors of Alpha Grand Rapids (AGR). The core responsibilities include supervising AMC staff, managing AMC Step Up Coaching, Fatherhood Support Group, and Job Readiness Programs, and supporting AMC volunteers and clients.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Center management

  • Oversees the daily operations of AMC, ensuring all employees, volunteers, and clients have an experience consistent with AGR’s core values
  • Implements consistent policies, procedures, and forms for all programs and coordinates with the VP of Client Services regarding proposed changes
  • Provides managerial support, direction, and supervision to AMC staff
  • Supports all direct reports through regular check-ins, as well as quarterly reviews, ensuring individual work objectives achieve organizational strategic priorities
  • Conducts yearly written and oral evaluations
  • Prepares AMC-related strategic plans and new program proposal papers for the approval of the VP of Client Services, President, and Board of Directors

Client management

  • Recruits clients and works with Marketing to create promotional materials for clients
  • Works with the medical staff to promote and encourage father involvement during pregnancy tests and ultrasounds; when applicable, provides options counseling to men during a Medical visit
  • Provides counsel to clients when necessary or appropriate
  • Handles challenging client situations
  • Builds relationships with clients and supports their growth
  • Provides referrals to clients based on need (medical, food, housing, jobs, etc.)

Volunteer management

  • Oversees AMC Step Up, Fatherhood Support Group, men’s Ed Services, and Job Readiness volunteers
  • Works with Educational Services Manager to support AMC Language cafe volunteers
  • Works with Childcare Coordinator to support childcare volunteers for Fatherhood Group and Jobs for Life
  • Partners with the Community Engagement Manager in matters relating to volunteers: communicating volunteer needs, writing volunteer job descriptions, interviewing potential volunteers, selecting volunteers, and coordinating volunteer appreciation
  • Communicates policies and procedures to volunteers and provides orientation for new volunteers
  • Oversees the scheduling of volunteers, ensuring adequate space and staffing
  • Builds relationships with volunteers, supports them in their roles, and empowers them to serve clients well
  • Provides in-service opportunities for volunteers to continue learning and growing in their role
  • Advises volunteers on how to work with specific clients and debriefs with them regularly
  • Ensures that all volunteer hours are recorded and submitted in a timely manner
  • Provides content and steers organization and timeliness of Step Up and Community Partner newsletters
  • Assists with AGR’s training program and recruitment process for new volunteers

Program management

  • Oversees and manages AMC Step Up Coaching, Fatherhood Support Group, men’s Ed Services, and Job Readiness Programs
  • Establishes and carries out program policies and procedures
  • Selects curriculum, oversees implementation, and assesses effectiveness
  • In partnership with the Marketing team, ensures adequate program participation
  • Develops, measures and tracks program outcomes
  • Manages client referrals, fills spaces in programs, maintains a wait list, and tracks communication
  • Analyzes distinct clients and client visits to ensure program sustainability
  • Purchases supplies

Administrative

  • Manages all aspects of budget, expenditures and tracking for Men’s Center Support Services, Educational Services, and Job Readiness Programs
  • Identifies and builds community partnerships for mutual referrals and client support
  • Maintains a clean and organized program space
  • Ensures accuracy of data entry
  • Runs reports in Zanda software and regularly provides data to the VP of Client Services

Communication

  • Provides weekly prayer requests and monthly stories and quotes to the VP of Client Services and/or Marketing Director
  • Assists with stories, quotes, photos, and videos for quarterly and annual publications and events

Other

  • Serves as backup to the Men’s Center Coordinator, covering the front desk during breaks and short absences
  • Finds coverage for the Men’s Center Coordinator on days off
  • Promotes and attends spring and fall fundraising events
  • Participates in all required staff meetings
  • May include presenting on behalf of Alpha Grand Rapids to churches and the community
  • Takes part in professional development as desired, recommended, or required
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications for the Position

Education: Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Business, Social Work, Human Resources, Ministry, or other related field. LLMSW, LMSW, or LPC (not required).

Prior work experience: At least five years of experience in a leadership capacity, (including proven organizational leadership in ministry or other community outreach related field), as well as experience in volunteer management, program development, and communications.

Language proficiency

  • English required
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) desirable

Skills and abilities

  • Strong organizational, administrative, and managerial skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong leadership abilities, including strengths in strategic conceptual visualization as well as organizational and programming development and implementation
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, as well as public speaking abilities
  • Ability to interact well with both individuals and groups from a variety of ethnicities and backgrounds
  • Ability to work independently and interact with other staff members
  • Ability to handle multiple responsibilities at once, manage time well, and take initiative
