TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

Speak and act as those who are going to be judged by the law that gives freedom. James 2:12

Listen: James 2

TODAY’S MESSAGE

James doesn’t simply tell the scattered churches what not to do but gives them instructions. He tells them to “speak and act.” He tells them to remember what Jesus did for them and then translate that into their words and deeds. Remember the mercy they have been shown by Jesus and live it out. James is essentially saying, mercy in—mercy out.

We are called to speak and act as well. The mercy we receive should result in us being people of mercy.

This sermon series is called “Faith that Works.” One way our faith works is by being people of mercy. When we care for the poor and hurting, we are showing mercy. When we engage with someone who is different than us, we speak and act. We put what we claim we believe into action.

That’s what faith is all about. Faith isn’t just saying we believe something—it is living like something is true. If we live as though what Jesus said was true, we will treat people different than us with love. It is mercy in—mercy out.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Reflect upon the mercy of God. What he has done for us is amazing. He has blessed us with his love and welcomed us into a relationship with him. Take some time to consider the heart of God and worship him today through the song “So Will I (100 Billion X)” by Hillsong Worship.
