Colossians 2.9-14

Paul knew the Christians in Colossae would see the danger of adding in old beliefs and rituals to their new found faith if they understood the value of what Jesus alone had done for them. By dying on the cross, Jesus raised them from death into a new life. He doesn’t make bad people better, he makes them new. As Pastor Manion asked, “Why would anyone want to blend this with other ideals?” We need to remember Jesus unblended is all we need.

Like the Colossians, when you receive Jesus by faith he brings you from death into new life, gives you a new identity, and new freedom. When you believe he died for your wrong-doing your sinful-self dies with him and you are resurrected with him into newness. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here” (2 Corinthians 5.17)!

Consider today what the “unblended” Jesus has done for you. If you’ve never accepted his gift of forgiveness and new life, simply tell him: Thank you Jesus for dying on the cross for my debt. I accept your gracious gift of forgiveness and want to follow you. If you’ve already done this, thank God for this gift.
