READ Proverbs 15 (listen). WRITE out one verse and SHARE with someone.
By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures. Proverbs 24:3-4
Read: Proverbs 24:3-4
Listen: Proverbs 24
King Solomon amassed great wealth in his lifetime. He accumulated treasures of precious metals, gemstones, animals and servants. Yet the king knew wisdom, understanding and knowledge built and established homes—not wealth. King Solomon also knew the great value of healthy relationships with others and with God. The treasures he wrote of were certainly more than just precious metals and gemstones. They were the treasures of peace, hospitality, laughter and friendship.
The Apostle Paul reflected on Jesus (who was King Solomon’s descendant) as our example to truly live well. “Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God” (Ephesians 5:1-2). What Jesus Christ has done for us through his death and resurrection is so much more than anything that has ever been done to us. Because Jesus gave himself for us, we can spend our lives loving and serving others. In doing so, we build eternal treasures (see Matthew 6).
Every day we choose a way. Our choices may seem small, but over time they compound and forge the path of our lives. We choose to walk in wisdom when we follow the way of Christ. We follow his way when we obey his teachings and trust in him for the uncertainties and challenges we face. With God’s help, we can choose a better way to live—a way that builds true treasure in our lives.
Listen to the song “Stand in Your Love.” As you listen to the lyrics, thank God for the gift of Jesus Christ, whose love allows you to stand in his power through any darkness, sorrow, brokenness and pain you face.
