TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. Mark 1:35

Read: Mark 1:35-38
Listen: Mark 1

TODAY’S MESSAGE

Jesus gets mobbed once people hear about his power to heal. Even though he must have been exhausted, he gets up early to spend time alone with God. It isn’t surprising he wanted to get away. What is surprising is the Holy One of God needed time alone with God the Father.

This verse tells us that even Jesus needed time with the Father to get a right perspective and stay spiritually refreshed. Jesus is busier than ever but considers time alone with God a priority. He comes out of this time with confidence and clarity of purpose.

Just like him, we need time alone with God. We need to follow Jesus’ example to regularly be alone with God, meet him in the Bible (his Word) and pray. This time will help us be the other preview of God’s Kingdom as people watch our speech and behavior. After being home for six months, we now know every nook and cranny in our houses. Finding a place to be alone to meet with God should be a snap.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Open your journal to pages 17-18. Follow the plan for Friday/Saturday by reading through the text one more time and noting what you’ve marked this week. Ask God to impress on you what main idea he wants you to see, and how he wants you to respond. Sit quietly and wait for what he brings to your mind. Then write it on page 18 and take action.
