“…your servant will never again make burnt offerings and sacrifices to any other god but the LORD.” 2 Kings 5:17
Read: 2 Kings 5:17-18
Listen: 2 Kings 5
Naaman, the rich and powerful captain of the armies of Aram, decides to humble himself. He decides to follow the instructions given by Elisha to be healed of his leprosy. He came to Israel expecting the king and prophet to bow down to him, heal him, and gratefully accept his gold and silver. Instead, he’s told to take a bath seven times.
Naaman obeys, gets in the water, “…and his flesh was restored and became clean like that of a young boy.” He encounters God and comes out of the water physically healed and spiritually changed. He vows to worship and sacrifice only to God. God is now his boss. Knowing he will be assisting his master worship false gods in Aram, he asks for forgiveness in advance. He will not be worshipping in his heart. Elisha tells him to go in peace.
Pastor Jeff Manion says people often believe in Jesus as their Savior, but not their boss. They claim to be a Jesus follower, then fudge on numbers at work, hand in assignments they didn’t write, or argue with someone on Facebook who doesn’t agree with them. They are in God’s family, but he isn’t their boss.
Before God, consider what your life would look like if you made Jesus your boss. In your journal, list the significant areas of your life such as work, family, friends, school and church. Prayerfully consider who is boss in each of these areas, you or God. Selecting one of these areas, ask God for wisdom and direction as you move toward making him the boss in that area.
