But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Matthew 6:30
Listen: Matthew 6
Jesus’ most famous sermon is called the “Sermon on the Mount”. In it, he touches on the subject of worry. Teaching his listeners not to worry—he talks about who God is, who we are and what God is restoring. He tells us that God is a God who cares and provides, that we don’t have to give in to our anxiety and that God is restoring our trust in him. The truth is that we are attention junkies seeking praise from the wrong places. God sees and rewards. Ultimately, God is coaching us to live for the right reward.
Remembering who God is, who we are and what he is restoring can help us today. When a friendship or relationship ends in a mess—we need to remember that God pursues us, we are his beloved children and he wants to restore broken relationships. When a loved one passes away—we must remember that God weeps about death and our pain (John 11:35), we are those loved by God and God is restoring a heart of trust. Remembering these things doesn’t make our pain or hurt go away but gives us hope to continue and drives us into the arms of our loving Father.
Read Matthew 6:1-24. Then spend some time journaling by asking yourself these four questions: What difficult situation(s) am I facing right now? In this situation—who is God, who am I and what might he be restoring?
