1 Thessalonians 5.16-18

When we’re “stuck,” these three simple, brief encouragements at the end of 1 Thessalonians can help us keep moving forward and strengthen our inner spiritual life. We’re to “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances…” (1 Thessalonians 5.16-18).

“Rejoice always” means we’re to “at all times be rejoicing.” We can do this because God loves us and is always working for our good. “Pray continually” means to be in a continual, constant attitude of prayer. “Give thanks in all circumstances” gives us no excuse to be ungrateful, even when we’re stuck and in a mess. No exceptions!

But here’s the best part—these three are what God commands for all of his children. We should be living lives of constant joy, prayer, and thanksgiving.

Today, memorize these three short verses and make them your goal—your “resolution”—for 2017. May this year be a year of joy, prayer, and thanksgiving for you and your family.
