Exodus 33.12-17

As Moses is about to lead the people from the base of Mount Sinai out across a dangerous desert land, his request of God is, “If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here” (Exodus 33.15). God’s responds, “I will do the very thing you have asked, because I am pleased with you and I know you by name” (Exodus 33.17). In fact, God allows his very presence to be housed in the Ark of the Covenant. Within this ornate box is the actual presence of God—wherever the Ark goes, the Israelites follow.

While we don’t have the Ark of the Covenant today, we have something greater: the Holy Spirit and Jesus. Ephesians 1.13-14 details the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. And Jesus is given the name Emmanuel, which means “God with Us” (Matthew 1.22-23). Be reminded that God is with you and desires to lead you as your loving Father and gracious God. You are not alone.

So, may we echo the heart of Moses’ prayer, but with gratitude for God’s abiding presence praying, “Thank you God for being with me today and not sending me out alone.” As you embark on your weekend, write and pray this prayer in whatever circumstance God is asking you to walk through.
