December 29|Finding Peace in a Culture of Anxiety Series
Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23

Today’s passage is from the book of Lamentations, probably one of the most downcast books of the Bible. The author of this book witnessed the terrible destruction of Jerusalem by the Babylonian armies in 587 BC. The atrocities observed by the author are almost beyond imagination and at the pinnacle of human suffering. This book is an out-crying of pain to God and request for relief.
However, in the center of this book, there is a key section that anchors the author (see the verse above). In the midst of grief and pain, somehow this person binds himself to the goodness of God—the sunrise acting as a reminder that God’s love is unstoppable and unending.
With the new year approaching, we are reminded that God’s faithfulness extends into it. No matter the year we have had, whether blessing or pain, we know God’s love will not diminish. His promise to love and care for us will not fail.
God desires to be your anchor this next year. As we step into a year of unknowns, know that God’s compassions never fail. Great is his faithfulness.
