Text: 1 Thessalonians 5.16-18

A life contemplating the blessings of Christ becomes a life acting the love of Christ. ~ Ann Voskamp, One Thousand Gifts.

Gratitude is when we remember, contemplate, and celebrate the blessings we’ve received. Conversely, our ingratitude is simply the result of preoccupation with the daily stresses of life. Left unchecked, a heart that doesn’t practice giving thanks to God grows cold, cynical, and harsh.

One vital practice that takes place in The Chair is thanksgiving: honing in on specific blessings God has given us, contemplating his kindness towards us, and then celebrating his kindness with real language. This habit of active thankfulness reorients our hearts toward reality and reminds us God is good and has given us more blessings than we can possibly imagine!

We live out of our hearts – and when our hearts are filled with thankfulness for the blessings God has given, we live with a freedom and fullness to bless those around us. When we’re filled with gratitude, we have something to give to others.

This week’s One Big Question is . . . What are three specific things you’re grateful for today? Make sure to share your thoughts with your small group or a friend. Also, we’d love to hear what you’re thankful for!  Post your three things on Ada Bible’s Facebook page or share on Twitter using @adabible  #learning2follow.
