Hebrews 12.1-2
This past weekend, Pastor Jeff Manion taught on the importance of faithfulness. Faithfulness is the slow, plodding path of doing the right thing over and over again. This diligent faithfulness demonstrates our love for God and is instrumental in God’s plan to make us more like Jesus.
The author of Hebrews encourages us to faithfully pursue God’s direction for our lives. We do this when we “fix our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith” (Hebrews 12.2a). Your path might seem mundane today but if your eyes are fixed on Jesus, your faithful perseverance is accomplishing God’s will for your life. Keep going.
Faithfulness is not a flashy virtue. It’s underrated. But it’s the faithful life God loves and blesses. It’s a married couple who directs the weekly church youth group, a young dad who reads to his kids nightly before bed or an experienced professional who rises early every day to meet with God, read her Bible and quiet her soul before him. These routine actions rarely get accolades—but are the substance of what forms our character.
As you welcome God into your day, consider where your eyes are fixed. Anything other than Jesus will leave us heading in the wrong direction. Identify the area of your life where you’re most likely to take your eyes off of Jesus. Commit to trusting God in this area day in and day out so God might continue to form his character in you.
