Excuses

January 13|When You Feel Like Giving Up Series
When we feel unprepared, we tend to make excuses. Jeremiah certainly did. He was called by God to speak against the deviant culture of his time, to uproot evil, and tear down horrendous behaviors. But from where Jeremiah sat, it was a daunting, endless, and impossible task. Thus the excuses: “I don’t know how to speak, I’m too young, I’m afraid, I don’t know how.”
God spoke his commands directly to Jeremiah, but speaks his commands to us through his Word (the Bible). Like Jeremiah, when we find ourselves in a seemingly impossible situation, we too can make excuses for not obeying. But God won’t ask us to do anything he won’t give us the power to do. See below for a short clip from the weekend sermon.
Today, as you lift your hands to God, identify how you feel unprepared in your impossible situation, and think through the excuses you make not to trust him. Prayerfully surrender your weakness to him, acknowledging to God “he has this,” and you’re willing to trust him.
