Jeremiah 1.17-19

God calls Jeremiah to the difficult and terrifying task of telling a rebellious nation to turn back to him before it is too late. This won’t be a one-time message, but will continue for forty years. It will take consistent courage that’s anchored in the faithful presence of an all-powerful God.

God understands and knows this will be hard. He tells Jeremiah to: “Dress yourself for work; arise, and say to them everything that I command you. Do not be dismayed by them…” (Jeremiah 1.17 ESV). Just four things: get up, get dressed, obey, and don’t be discouraged. In the midst of an “impossible” trial, it’s often the seemingly small and basic things that keep us going—in the midst of overwhelming fear—when we’re anchored in God.

All of us have trials at varying degrees of “impossibility” in our lives. Today as you meet with God, ask him to help you identify some basic things that will keep you moving forward with courage. Thank him for understanding what you need, and working in ways you may not see.
