Colossians 4.7

As Paul brings his letter to the Colossians to a close, he mentions eleven people who were critical to bringing the message of Jesus to Colossae. Each played a part—some big and some small—as those in that area became “faithful brothers and sisters in Christ” (Colossians 1.2). These names remind us that the gospel and the church are relationally integrated.

One of the eleven he mentions is Tychicus, “a dear brother, a faithful minister and fellow servant in the Lord” (Colossians 4.7). Known for his reliability, Tychicus is mentioned several times in Paul’s writings. Again and again he is sent by Paul to accomplish significant tasks (including, possibly, the delivery of some of Paul’s letters to the churches). His was a call to faithful servanthood, to do whatever needed to be done to advance the gospel. He was available.

While few of us will have the versatility and freedom that Tychicus apparently did, we are all needed somewhere right now. If you’re in that place and actively serving, great! Thank the Lord for using you in this way as you pray for wisdom and strength. If you’re not, begin a conversation about serving at Ada Bible by visiting us at adabible.org/volunteer.
