Read: John 10:22-33
Listen: John 10

My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. I and the Father are one. John 10:29-30

Throughout his ministry, Jesus has multiple heated exchanges with the religious leaders. These teachers of the law press him about his true identity. Who does he say he really is? In a clear and bold response, Jesus claims equality with God the Father. The Jewish leaders know exactly what this means. Jesus is not just claiming to be a miracle worker or a good teacher. He is claiming to be God. At this, they pick up stones to kill him, saying, “We are not stoning you for any good work…but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God” (John 10:33).

If Jesus truly is God, the implications are massive for us today. He can’t simply be a good teacher or mere miracle worker. He didn’t leave that option open. To call Jesus a good person while denying his identity as God would be to call him a liar, since he clearly claimed to be God. And if he is God, as he claimed, then the only proper response is for us to fully submit to his lordship and leadership.

TODAY: Reflect on what it would mean to fully submit to the lordship of Jesus. Is there an “untouchable” area of your life that you need to submit to him? Ask God for the courage to identify areas of your life to surrender to his rule.
