THREE THINGS TO KNOW

DON’T MISS THIS. This coming weekend, we are excited to celebrate BAPTISM across all Ada Bible campuses! Baptism is an outward expression of an inward change that happens in our lives after we place our faith and trust in Christ. Do you have questions about baptism? Are you interested in getting baptized? To learn more about how you can take this important step in your faith, click HERE.

GROUP VALUES. This week, we continue our focus on the value of BIBLICAL TRUTH. God’s Word should be the primary voice that shapes how we move through the world, including the way we engage with the orphan, the widow, and the foreigner. As a group, take some time to linger in this week’s passage: Deuteronomy 10:17-19. What emotions or images do these verses stir up? Why is it important to stand on biblical truth when it comes to difficult, hotly debated issues?

GROW AS A LEADER. The topic of immigration and borders is likely to stir up images of recent political tension. Pastor Aaron invites us to choose the way of Jesus by living in the tension with a commitment to biblical truth. In 2024, we spent time exploring how to let our faith shape the way we engage these difficult political topics while pursuing unity with each other. Check out this sermon from guest pastor John Dickson. He points to Christ’s example of humility as our model. As leaders, it is important that we model the way of Jesus in our groups and in our daily lives. You can find the sermon HERE.

SERMON DISCUSSION GUIDE

Welcome to the second week of our series, YOU ASKED FOR IT VOL. 2, where we tackle the tough questions our church family has been asking. This week, we unpack what the Bible says about immigration and borders.

ICEBREAKER

As Americans, many of us have a story of immigration in our families. What is your family background (i.e., nationality, culture, location, etc.)?

THIS WEEK’S TEXT

Have someone read Deuteronomy 10:17-19 aloud.

What phrases or words stand out to you in this passage?

Whose cause does God say he defends?

Why do you think God connects his might to his defense of the fatherless, widow, and foreigner?

THIS WEEK’S SERMON

In the second week of YOU ASKED FOR IT VOL. 2, Pastor Aaron explores what the Bible has to say about immigration and borders and how we are called to live in the tension. As a group, recall some of the sermon’s big ideas and main points.

Conversations around immigration often bring strong opinions and emotions. How does our culture typically handle this topic?

As Jesus followers, the way we understand the world should begin with what God teaches in the Bible. What tends to get in the way of believers applying his Word to the way we engage with vulnerable people?

Through Scripture, God consistently expresses a special concern for immigrants and other vulnerable people. How should God’s heart for the vulnerable shape the way we think and act today?

Have someone read Romans 13:1. Why is it important to understand the difference between our personal responsibility and the role of government?

Living faithfully requires navigating the tension of two realities: every human being is made in the image of God, and yet sin is present in every human heart. Which of these realities do you struggle with most?

Loving others often becomes most real in everyday interactions. What might it look like to show intentional hospitality and practical help to people around you?

This week’s sermon highlighted the opportunity to share the gospel with people from different backgrounds. How can you become more intentional about building relationships with people who are different from you?

WRAP UP

Following Jesus often calls us to both compassion and wisdom. What is one specific way you can grow in showing both hospitality and healthy boundaries this week?
