THREE THINGS TO KNOW

DON’T MISS THIS. At Ada Bible Church, it’s our desire that you are equipped to deepen your relationship with Christ. ADA BIBLE ACADEMY is an opportunity for you to dig deeper into topics that will strengthen your faith and help you grow in Christlikeness. This fall, will feature two classes focused on understanding God’s design in sexuality and living with purpose in your 60s and beyond. We invite you to join us for these four-week classes starting Thursday, October 16, at our East Paris campus. To register, click HERE.

GROUP VALUES. This month, we will focus on the value of CARE. Sharing life is an essential part of small group rhythms. God commands us to carry one another’s burdens (Galatians 6:2). Opportunities to provide care are inevitable as we share life with one another. Take time this week to check in with your group and discuss your commitment to care. Choose one way you can care for one another this month and commit to doing so.

GROW AS A LEADER. The story of Moses is one of the most foundational stories in the Old Testament. His story and writings are captured in the books of Exodus, Numbers, Leviticus and Deuteronomy. In other words, there is too much content to cover on a Sunday morning—or two! Here is where the BEYOND THE WEEKEND PODCAST comes in. Join hosts Amelia and Stephen, alongside guest Pastor Brad, as they unpack the significance of Moses’ life and the law. Add this to your arsenal this week alongside the Sermon Discussion Guide. DISCUSSION GUIDE

Welcome to another week of our sermon series, EPIC. This week, we explore God’s commandments through the story of Moses and discover how rescue always comes before the rules.

ICEBREAKER

Share the most ridiculous or bizarre rule you’ve heard (from your workplace, social media, growing up, etc.). Why do you think that rule existed?

THIS WEEK’S TEXT

Have someone read Exodus 20:1-17 aloud.

Why does God remind Israel of their rescue before giving them the commandments?

What do the commandments reveal about God’s character?

What do the commandments reveal about God’s desire for human relationships?

THIS WEEK’S SERMON

Pastor Brad Holmes continued Moses’s story by discussing the Ten Commandments and what they reveal about God’s heart and our response. As a group, recall some of the sermon’s big ideas and main points.

How does our culture tend to interact with rules? What does that reveal about the world we live in?

The story of Moses reveals that God desires to rescue his people before giving them rules. Why is it important to understand you’ve been rescued before following the rules?

Ephesians 2:8 tells us, “It is by grace you have been saved…not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.” Why is it easy for us to think we need to have our lives in order before receiving the gift of God’s rescue?

How has your experience of God’s rescue cultivated a desire to follow God’s commands?

The Ten Commandments are divided into two categories: loving God (1-4) and loving others (5-10). How does investing in our relationship with God naturally overflow into how we treat those around us?

Jesus summarized the commandments as love God and love others (Matthew 22:36-40). Reflecting on your life, which is easier for you—loving God or loving people? Why do you think that is?

Where do you find yourself struggling the most to follow God’s commands? How can we come alongside one another in our obedience to God?

WRAP UP

After reflecting on God’s commandments as an invitation into a relationship, how has your understanding of God’s commands changed? What gives you confidence that God’s commands flow from his love for you?
