Sometimes the road back to God is the road of loss. “Sometimes” is the key word here. It’s God’s nature to restore, if we are willing.
Losing our reputation, job, marriage, career, and loved ones is painful. It just is. In the midst of overwhelming loss and pain it’s hard to imagine anything good coming from it.
But the Bible teaches us there is still hope in the midst of pain. Acknowledging God’s promise, “I am with you,” is the foundation of survival. What we gain may seem slow, but “faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see” (Hebrews 11.1). Watch the short video clip below from the weekend’s sermon which shows what happens when we cling to hope.
Martyred missionary Jim Elliot put it like this, “He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose.” Today as you lift your heart to God, thank him for the losses in your life which he can use to bring gain you may not see yet.
