Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. Luke 2:11
Read: Luke 2:1-20
Listen: Luke 2
We celebrate Christmas as Jesus’ long-promised birth. The angels declare to shepherds, “Today in the town of David, a Savior has been born.” Jesus is the Savior of many things. He is our substitute sufferer (1 John 2:2) and who sets us free from the slavery of sin to real life (Romans 6:18). He’s the Savior who gifts us his righteousness (Romans 3:22). He’s the Savior who offers us peace (Romans 5:1) and reconciles us with God, so we are now children of God (1 John 3:1).
Jesus is the gift God gave so that the world wouldn’t perish but could have eternal life (John 3:16). All the gifts we give and receive today, and the joy they bring to our lives, come from that greatest gift.
As you celebrate, take moments to celebrate Jesus. Say a quick prayer of thanks, tell someone how thankful you are for Jesus, reflect on what he has done in your life or read the Christmas story aloud. Purposely celebrate the gift of Jesus today.
