Although continually warned, Israel blew off every opportunity to turn back to God before it was too late. In the tenth year of King Zedekiah, the armies of Babylon besieged Jerusalem, burned it to the ground, and took captive all survivors. Even though God allowed this to happen, he never left nor abandoned them, and had a plan to “bring them back to [Jerusalem] and let them live in safety. They will be my people, and I will be their God” (Jeremiah 32.37-38). Their story wasn’t over!
When bad things happen we either hope in God or despair. How we respond in crisis correlates with our willingness to trust him. The level to which we’re willing to take him at his word affects the restoration that takes place in our lives. We can’t see exactly how God is working, but when we place our emotions and chaos into his hands, something that has no value becomes valuable again.
God has a way of redeeming horrific situations in our lives in ways we can’t imagine. We may not get back the broken marriage, deceased child, or lost job, but there is immeasurable hope in trusting him for what we cannot see. Your story isn’t over, either.
As you spend time with God today, write out Jeremiah 32.27, “I am the Lord, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?” Memorize it and replace “all mankind” with your own name to remind you he is your God and nothing in your life is too hard for him to get you through.
