Purpose Statement

To proclaim the gospel by welcoming middle and high school students into a loving community, equipping them with God’s never changing truth, and inspiring them to live it out in an ever-changing world.

 

Overview

At Cascade Fellowship, the staff team, council, and membership are all committed to our mission of “radiating the love and truth of Jesus into every area of life.” This mission is interwoven into every aspect of our ministry. The Student Ministry Lead is a valuable part in achieving Cascade’s God-given mission and vision. This person is a key player on the Family Ministries Team, leading and directing ministries for middle and high school students.

 

Reporting & Teamwork

  • The Student Ministry Lead Reports directly to the Pastor of Discipleship, with oversight provided by the Lead Pastor.

  • This person is a member of the Family Ministries Team.

 

Responsibilities

  • Team Building

    • Recruit, welcome, equip, disciple, and inspire a team of volunteers who are dedicated to radiating the love and truth of Jesus by serving students and the ministry in a variety of ways.

    • Discern which volunteers may become future leaders and enter into a mentoring relationship with them, guiding and inspiring them toward greater levels of ownership.

    • Oversee the recruitment, equipping, inspiring, and training of all volunteers in the middle school, high school, and college ministries, with the goal of building a sense of ownership and investment.

    • Create an exciting and welcoming environment for all volunteers.

    • Provide spiritual leadership and care to students and volunteers, partnering with the Pastor of Discipleship to care for families.

    • Create systems to thank and appreciate volunteers, including calls, notes, and gatherings.

    • Ensure all volunteers and ministries are compliant with existing safety and protection policies including all volunteers in tandem with the Pastor of Discipleship.

  • Relational Ministry

    • Connect regularly and build relationships with 6th-12th grade students and college-aged students, equipping volunteers to share in relational ministry.

    • Create and implement systems to disciple and to provide spiritual care for students.

    • Create positive connections with local middle and high schools, both public and private.

    • In cooperation with the staff, oversee digital methods of connecting with students, including through the use of social media.

  • Weekly Programs

    • Develop and maintain a calendar of ministries and programs that targets the goal for students to grow as disciples of Jesus through welcoming, equipping, and inspiring their faith.

    • Teach Sunday morning discipleship classes for students and recruit volunteers as needed.

    • Plan and execute a regularly scheduled group gathering for middle school and high school aged students.

    • Continue developing a relationally focused ministry that serves college-aged students focusing on welcoming, equipping, and inspiring their faith.

    • Plan special events as outreach opportunities to students.

    • Lead regularly scheduled service/missional projects for students.

  • Special Retreats and Trips

    • Plan and lead trips for students, approximately two service opportunities and one retreat for each age group per year.

    • Oversee an annual mission trip for students.

  • Other Responsibilities

    • Engage fully in the life of our church by participating in its ministries.

    • Maintain connections with other vibrant student ministries around the country.

    • Regularly read books, listen to podcasts, and attend workshops to learn and grow in all areas of ministry.

    • Participate in staff meetings and other meetings as scheduled.

    • Regularly assemble a team of people to assist with brainstorming and evaluation with the goal of improving all aspects of ministry.

    • Perform other duties, as assigned by your supervisor.

  1. Possesses a personal belief in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord and is committed to building up and unifying the body of Christ.

  2. Affirms and is aligned with Cascade Fellowship’s stated mission and goals.

  3. Is a member of the church or is in the process of becoming one.

  4. Conducts himself or herself as a servant leader by putting others first and prioritizing the development and advancement of his or her team.

  5. Is an empathic leader who loves nurturing, shepherding, and mentoring others, empowering them to fulfill God’s calling in their lives (Eph. 4:11-13).

  6. Leads in an organized and reliable way by organizing, delegating, supervising, and evaluating the effectiveness of ministry methods, adapting as needed, and refusing to accept results that are “good enough.”

  7. Is self-directed, good at goal setting, and willing to go above and beyond what is expected.

  8. Has a flexible, teachable, can-do attitude when presented with novel situations and challenges.

  9. Brings a positive, encouraging attitude into the work environment that causes others to feel built up and well supported.

  10. Creates vibrant and thriving teams of enthusiastic volunteers who become deeply connected to the church’s mission and vision.

  11. Has a history of exhibiting the ability to handle potentially divisive issues with wisdom, discernment, and grace.

  12. Has the ability to maintain and protect sensitive and confidential information.

  13. Must be available to work weekends (Sundays and special events) and an average of one evening each week.

  14. Demonstrates excellent communication ability, including the ability to write clearly and accurately in a concise and user-friendly way.

  15. Has 3-5 years experience preferred in leading teams and/or student ministries (preferred).

 

Compensation and Benefits

  • This job is compensated according to the educational background, experience, and work expected of the employee.

  • Wage adjustments are determined annually and consider the employee’s performance and the current market.
