Position Summary:

The Instructional Designer will oversee and provide technical and other support for curriculum development that supports all ODBU eLearning initiatives. This position will develop, update, and maintain content in all areas of ODBU, including special projects, course creation, and course updates as requested by the Director of Online Education. 

Essential Functions:

  • Oversee and assist in the management and delivery of the eLearning courses and instructional design according to best-practice standards.   
  • Review and advise revisions of course content to provide students with challenging and effective learning environments.
  • Develop and maintain a high working proficiency in the Moodle Learning Management System (LMS) and the Adobe Creative Suite software. Remain current on emerging software and new LMS solutions.
  • Assist the System Administrator in overseeing the work of outsourced contractors working for ODBU.
  • Interface, as assigned, with Our Daily Bread staff as well as outside contractors related to course structure, development, and Internet presentation.
  • Develop written documentation of practices and procedures related to job responsibilities.
  • Assist in ensuring the backup and security of all course, website, and Internet content.
  • Oversee the construction and release of new courses and/or new versions of courses on schedule and within budget.
  • Oversee the development of graphical elements to support new and existing course content.
  • Keep accurate records of activity related to these tasks.
  • Develop content (video, graphic, text) for social media distribution through Facebook and other online outlets.
  • Provide technical support for Moodle installation and all learning management software.
  • Assume other duties normally associated with the role of an Instructional Designer related to online education programs. 

Note: all of the above responsibilities presume that the employee will be trained through ODBU for specific tasks that are requested and that may be unique to ODBU.

Study or Knowledge or Experience:

  • Degree in computer science or a related field—or equivalent experience
  • Technical aptitude and desire to adapt to new technologies
  • Background in organizational leadership preferred
  • Knowledge in online content learning and delivery preferred
  • Bible courses or equivalent training to provide familiarity with theological terms and general Bible knowledge
  • Proficiency with content management software and associated tools
  • Experience in Learning Management Systems, LearnDash or Moodle preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word/EXCEL)
  • Proficiency or at least familiarity with Adobe Suite (InDesign/Photoshop/ Illustrator/Captivate/Media Encoder, Premiere Pro, After Effects) 
  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Exhibition of personal characteristics including professionalism, discretion, accuracy, flexibility, and tact
  • Strive to live a life consistent with biblical principles and demonstrate continued growth and spiritual development.

 

Internal Work Environment

The position involves extensive communication and coordination with individuals within ODBU and sometimes within the greater Our Daily Bread community. Significant discretion, accuracy, tact, and clarity are required to successfully negotiate schedules, deadlines, technical issues, and personalities. 

External Work Environment

This role consists in significant communication with service providers, contractors, institutions of higher education, and occasionally students. Professionalism including discretion, tact, patience, vocabulary, and accuracy are required.

Position may require research and making of recommendations relative to products and services needed by ODBU.  Employee is expected to exercise wise stewardship in use of time and resources including the implementation of forward planning and recommendations for procedures and programs that result in cost savings to the organization.
