Position: Maintenance / Groundskeeper
Location: District Wide
Reports To: Custodial-Maintenance Supervisor
Work Year: Full Year Position / 40hrs/week
Position Summary
● Grounds: To maintain lawns, athletic fields, and general grounds in a consistent and professional
manner
● Maintenance & Custodial: To perform maintenance and repair as needed and to be familiar with the
equipment operation and maintenance procedures related to essential functions of this position. To
perform custodial duties in support of district wide operations and grounds.
● Customer Service: Support the department and district staff with moves, deliveries, and services
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
● Should have strong hands-on capabilities in terms of being able to do or learn how to do many of
the tasks that our grounds and maintenance department performs, prioritizing work that needs to be
done
● This position is focused on customer service in meeting the needs of many areas of the district.
● Time management and prioritization of tasks is important to the role
● This position will work with the Custodial-Maintenance Supervisor, Executive Director of
Operations and Transportation, Athletic Director, and other Administrators to have an understanding
of what the needs and priorities of the District are
● Ability to build strong working relationships with co-workers and staff
● Must be a team player and supportive of the overall goals of the Operations Department and
Caledonia Community Schools
● Snow plowing
● Operate a wide variety of medium duty grounds machinery, hand and powered tools for the purpose
of maintaining the district grounds and athletic fields
● Application of fertilizer, and/or chemical weed and disease control
● Monitor, repair and maintain in a safe condition all parking lots, district signage,
playgrounds, playground equipment, sidewalks, fencing, trees, and related site equipment
● Clean athletic field rest rooms

● Pick up trash in stadiums and athletic fields. Regularly empty trash receptacles at the athletic
fields
● Performs and participates in building and equipment maintenance, minor electrical repairs,
plumbing, carpentry, hardware, HVAC filter changes, painting, and other district maintenance tasks
● Deliver and move a wide variety of products and items throughout the district
● Additional duties as directed by the Supervisor of Maintenance and Custodial and/or the
Executive Director of Operations and Transportation
Employment Qualifications
● High school diploma or equivalent
● Experience in grounds, sports turf related work and snow plowing
● Other related work experience may also qualify for consideration. Work experience should relate
to facility maintenance / operations and/or grounds and sports turf maintenance with institutional
experience being desirable
● Demonstrated ability to prioritize, organize, and plan grounds, snowplowing, and sports turf
operations
● Effectively communicate with a wide variety of people
● Ability to work flexible hours as workload and project needs change
● Must be team oriented
Current Certification / Knowledge Base Desirable:
● Pesticide / Herbicide application license or ability to acquire within three (3) months
● All aspects of sprinkler systems installation and maintenance
● All aspects of snow removal, salt treatment and parking lot winter maintenance
● Must be able to pull and back up a vehicle with a trailer in tow
● Applicant will need to acquire a CDL license within eight (8) months of hire

Mental/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors include but are not limited to: Continual walking,
standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, heavy lifting, and carrying. Work in
tiring and uncomfortable positions, outside and inside. Exposure to extreme temperatures. Frequent
district wide travel. On call.
Must be able to exert up to 75 pounds of force frequently, and/or 25 pounds of force constantly to
move objects. Required the ability to climb and maneuver on ladders, scaffolding and/or in tight
spaces.

Work Environment
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but occasionally high depending upon
the student population and activities. The employee may be exposed to a variety of conditions
including: wet or humid, work near moving parts, work in high precarious places, a variety of
cleaning agents, some hazardous chemicals and fumes, outdoor weather conditions, risk of electrical
shock and vibration. The employee may be exposed to bodily fluids and blood borne pathogens.
