Custodian

Purpose:

The Custodian ensures that the facilities of St Mark Lutheran Church are cleaned and santizied in a condition of operating excellence, cleanliness and safety. The custodian will be security conscious regarding persons entering the Church property and will assist with security issues presented by guests to the Church. Safety, cleanliness, and continued efficiency of operation shall always be a major goal.

 

Qualifications/Expectations:

• Shall not be a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church
• Positive attitude, trustworthy, with strong work ethics, and a servant heart
• Good communication skills both verbal and written
• Ability to read and understand labels and instructions, particularly on the use and application of cleaning chemicals and products
• Ability to work independently (mostly) and as a team (as needed)
• Be coopertive and show respect and courtesy to all church staff, church members, and church visitors
• Ability to maintain confidentialty in all matters
• Dependable with reliable transportation
• Must be able to work on feet throughout work shift
• Must be able to pass background checks

Duties and Responsibilities

• Cleaning and disinfecting of all high touch points
• Cleaning of glass windows
• Vacuuming of carpeted areas
• Cleaning and sanitizing of restrooms and showers
• Replenishing supplies in restrooms
• Emptying trash receptacles (interior and exterior)
• Dusting and washing of walls and chair/crown molding
• Clean and sanitize water fountains, bottle fillers, etc.
• Sweeping and mopping of hard floor surfaces
• Cleaning and dusting of elevator
• Spot cleaning pew cushions, communion rail cushions, etc.
• Spot cleaning of carpet and rugs
• Clean and sanitize kitchen
• Perform minor/routine maintenance
• Sweep exterior walkways, pick up trash, etc.
• Cleaning parking lots of pinecones and other yard debris
• Shovel and salt walkways
• Set-up and tear-down of events
• Responds to immediate cleaning requirements during work shift
• Reports building and grounds maintenance problems
• Maintain cleaning equipment
• Other duties as assigned

It gives a general list of responsibilities and is subject to change as the need arises. This position is physically demanding and fast paced. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, lift, bend, reach, move furniture, push and pull equipment, use hands and fingers. Ability to lift up to 50lbs is required.

Hours: Part time, with the potential for extra hours on occasion. Working early mornings from 5-9am or 6-10am.
